Investigation of Performance-Security Tradeoff in Robotic Mobile Wireless Ad hoc Networks (RANETs) using Stochastic Petri Nets

چکیده
This paper presents a comprehensive review of performancesecurity trade-off based on RANETs. It is suggested that stochastic Petri nets (SPNs) are the best choice to investigate performance-security trade-off in RANETs. In the context of RANETs, a mathematical model that is based on SPNs is analysed to investigate performance-security trade-off. Security is assessed in terms of mean time to security failure (MTTSF) and performance is assessed in terms of service response time (R). The main objective is to find optimal settings that includes the best intrusion detection interval and best batch rekey interval under which mean time to security failure is maximized while satisfying performance requirement in terms of system response time.

Performance Related Security Modelling and Evaluation of RANETs
An exposition is undertaken on the performance related security modelling and evaluation of a robotic mobile wireless ad hoc networks (RANETs) and associated tradeoffs. It is based on the discrete event simulation analysis of a stable open gated queueing network model with infinite capacity, arbitrary configuration and multiple classes of packets under first-come-first-served and head-of-line r...
متن کاملModeling and Performance Evaluation of Energy Consumption in S-MAC Protocol Using Generalized Stochastic Petri Nets
One of the features of wireless sensor networks is that the nodes in this network have limited power sources. Therefore, assessment of energy consumption in these networks is very important. What has been common practice has been the use of traditional simulators to evaluate the energy consumption of the nodes in these networks. Simulators often have problems such as fluctuating output values i...
متن کاملA New Intrusion Detection System to deal with Black Hole Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
By extending wireless networks and because of their different nature, some attacks appear in these networks which did not exist in wired networks. Security is a serious challenge for actual implementation in wireless networks. Due to lack of the fixed infrastructure and also because of security holes in routing protocols in mobile ad hoc networks, these networks are not protected against attack...
متن کاملModeling and analysis of intrusion detection integrated with batch rekeying for dynamic group communication systems in mobile ad hoc networks
We investigate performance characteristics of secure group communication systems (GCSs) in mobile ad hoc networks that employ intrusion detection techniques for dealing with insider attacks tightly coupled with rekeying techniques for dealing with outsider attacks. The objective is to identify optimal settings including the best intrusion detection interval and the best batch rekey interval und...
متن کاملCertification-based trust models in mobile ad hoc networks: A survey and taxonomy
A mobile ad hoc network is a wireless communication network which does not rely on a pre-existing infrastructure or any centralized management. Securing the exchanges in such network is compulsory to guarantee a widespread development of services for this kind of networks. The deployment of any security policy requires the definition of a trust model that defines who trusts who and how. There i...
